This page is a record of my heraldic activities. The background to this page is also my original artwork, a Jelling-style design.

Go to the SCA Heraldry site or the Midrealm Heraldry site for much more heraldry info.

Articles:

A class on Conflict-Checking Armory, taught at Atlantia University Fall 2005.  This is a PDF file of the slide show and notes pages, and is a bit more complete than the walk-through I wrote earlier.  Here also is the handout, created by Mistress Gwenllian ferch Maredudd, and a conflict-checking worksheet to practice your skills.

A walk-through style tutorial for armorial conflict checking via the Internet, using a sample device, written 10 May 2005.

My class on heraldic beasts, taught at a canton A&S night in Nov 03, to help people prepare for 12th Night which had heraldic beasts as a theme. The file is in PDF format.

The handout for my class on heraldic display, taught at various collegia in 2002 and 2003.  It shows examples of heraldic banners.

Article providing a list of Norse men's names from various sagas, written in Dec 99 for a new member looking for a name.

I occasionally get questions about heraldry for Norse personas. There are two very good articles available on this topic:

Mistress Thora Sharptooth's article "Personal Display for Viking Age Personae: A Primer for Use in the SCA" that introduces the concept of heraldry for pre-heraldic personas.

Mistress Gunnvor Silfraharr's article that expands on the concept with many pictures and examples.

Consultations:

The most recent items are listed first. If I am doing a consultation for you, you will find the drawing on this page as soon as I get it done. Any consults that are completed or abandoned more than a year ago will no longer link to a larger-size drawing. If you need an image I have done for you in the past, e-mail me with the desired size and format.

The name and device for Llewelyn Kelly, begun in Jun 04. I have not heard from him since. The device for Isadora von Drachenstein, begun in June 05.  This consult was a conflict check only.
The alternate device for Keidrych, begun in July 04 and awaiting his feedback. The name and device for Eibhlin, begun in June 04. The device was ready to submit, after making changes to clear conflict, in Jan 05.
The name and device for Martha Tigernach, begun in June 04. The name and device for Owain ap Henry, begun in June 04.
The name and device for Petrus Saggitarius, begun in Apr 04 and finished in June 04. As far as I know he has not yet submitted it. The name and device for Morgan MacGregor, begun in June 04. She is considering several color combinations and some variations on the name.
The name and device for Rodrigo Peregrino de Navarra, begun in Mar 04, submitted at a consult table for the Apr 04 ILoI. Because the final form was submitted at a consult table, the image is of lower-than-normal quality. The name and device for Cecllie' de Lorraine, begun in Mar 04, was submitted at a consult table, passed kingdom in Apr 04 and passed Laurel in Jan 05.
The name and device for Dubghall MacGrioghair, begun and completed in Mar 04, and resubmitted in May 04 for a redraw. The name and device for James Oleveir, begun in Jan 04 and submitted in Mar 04. The name was resubmitted in May 04, and the device in May and again in July 04 (current form is shown). The name is in the process of being changed.
The name and device for Vladimir Davidovich, begun in Jan 04 and submitted in Mar 04, and resubmitted in May 04 for a redraw of the yak tails. My second badge, submitted in Nov 03, passed in March 04, and notified in June 04 (this is a typical timeline if there are no returns).
The proposed device for Jansen Wulframsson, begun in Apr 02. He decided that, because the spirals were not registerable, not to register a device. This is perfectly appropriate for a Dark Ages persona. The latest draft (as far as I know) of the proposed device for Anushaka Redstripe, begun in Apr 02. When I left in May 03, she was still making changes to the design.
The device for AEsa the Fierce, begun in Feb 02, and passed in summer of 2003. The badge for Juliana Montealto del Mar, begun in Feb 02 and completed in March 02, and passed that fall (it is actually fieldless but difficult to see on a white background).
A rough draft of the proposed device for Chrysagon de Guerre, begun in Jan 02. After seeing how the black dolphin looked on the blue & white, he decided to reconsider. The proposed device for Maria Elena von Metten, begun in Dec 02, completed in Feb 02. I don't know if it was ever submitted.
This is the Barony of the Flame's award for achievements in the Arts and Sciences, the Order of the Sparks, completed in Mar 02 and passed in winter 2002. This is the Barony of the Flame's proposed award for Service, the Order of the Tear of the Flame. Unfortunately, it was returned for an identifiability problem. Since my departure it was redesigned and resubmitted.
The proposed device for Axel Fairhair, completed in Feb 02. Eventually, he submitted something quite different. The proposed device for Sigmund Kittel, completed in Jan 02. I don't know if it was ever sent in.

Experience:

I am presently the Pursuivant of the Barony of the Far West, until I can find a replacement.  I have held positions as group herald at the shire, barony, and currently canton levels in Atlantia, the Middle Kingdom, and the West Kingdom. I have provided vocal heraldry for numerous events and dozens of royal and baronial courts in those two kingdoms.

Artwork:

Below are some bits of heraldic artwork I have done for various SCA groups.  I grant permission for nonprofit use of any of the artwork below.  As with consultations, I will keep the full-size copies of the art on this page for a time, then de-link and remove the full-size versions.  If you want a full-size version of the art below that is no longer linked, get in touch with me.
The arms of the Barony of the Far West. The arms of the Stronghold of Warrior's Gate.
"Spike," the populace badge for Atlantia.  I was unable to find any good representations of Spike online, so I made this one. The same "Spike" badge in a line-drawing format, suitable for recoloring.  This badge is registered in many color combinations.
The badge of the King of Atlantia. The badge of the Prince of Atlantia.
The black and white version of the Atlantian Royal Seal, orginally created as a bronze casting for wax seals on scrolls. The color version of the Atlantian Royal Seal, orginally created as a bronze casting for wax seals on scrolls.
