Gold Birka Brocade on Red Wool

This is my newest project.

I am weaving a variation of the motifs found in Birka. The pattern draft uses 17 cards and is 64 turns long.  I choose out the "s" patterns and the invert "f" patterns for the band.

The band is a brocaded tablet woven band with red fingerweight wool as the background weave and Japan gold thread as the brocaded weft.  It measures 1/2 inch in width.  When I finish the band it will become trim for my newest 10th Century Danish outfits.  Some of the trim will go on my Lord's tunic and some will go on my apron dress.  When I finish weaving the band and sew it on the finished outfits I will add those pictures to the site.

For a complete description of how to table weave please see my other articles in the A&S section of the web site.
